Fabric Care
All fabrics benefit from regular care and attention. If looked after furnishing fabrics should retain their appearance for many years.
The causes of fabrics losing their appearance are generally attributed to dust, open fires and general household usage.
Dry cleaning only is recommended for these fabrics.
Curtains will last longer and give a better appearance if lined; lining also offers protection against fading.
Curtains vacuumed at regular intervals will prevent dust and grime becoming engrained.
Silk
Whilst man made fibres offer a host of easy care options natural fibres have a depth and character that is difficult to match.
Machine or hand woven silks are susceptible to atmospheric changes, unevenness, colour variation and slubs but these are all part of the richness of silk and make each order quite unique.
Silk must always be dry cleaned by a specialist. Never attempt to remove stains yourself always consult a specialist cleaner.
Stain Removal
Accidents will happen and are often unavoidable, here are a few do’s and dont's:
- Don't use hot water as it may set the stain into the fabric. (do not wet silk)
- Don't rub at a stain, use a dabbing motion to avoid spreading the mark.
- If possible work from the outside of the stain inwards, otherwise the stain will spread.
- Make sure you are using a clean cloth and where possible use a pad underneath to absorb liquid.
